Unfortunately we’ve had to put together a very specific list of items not allowed at True North. We want to be clear and make sure we are protecting the True North brand. We are an industry leader and want to continue to be one of the best stores around.
Here is a full list of items that are not accepted and will be removed from the floor.
Items not accepted:
- Vintage items must be 1995 or older.
- Wholesale or new items not made by you. (Any wholesale you see around the store has been approved before being added to TN.)
- Political, offensive, non-inclusive, abusive, or dangerous. This includes: satanic, Nazi, knives, guns, kitchen knives, swords, or pocket knives.
- Crafty items are not allowed. If you can make it easily, so can our customers.
- Any trademarked logos or copyrighted – with the logo added by you. (Example: a Bears jersey is ok, but a wooden sign with a bears logo is not allowed.)
- Items still in packages (Example: bedding in a bag, a waffle maker in a box.) The box does not add value in most cases.
- Any thrift style items (Example: a waffle maker you received for Christmas). Items should be vintage and from 1995 or older.
- Items not priced correctly (including sets).
- No crochet or candles. We have specific vendors approved in this category. (Again – no crafts or handmade items without approval).
- Vintage vendors should not be adding handmade items. They must have pre-approval.
- No bow/tulle/ribbon handmade wreaths. These items are dated and not True North style. (example in vendor packet) Again, no crafts.
- No Dollar Store, Michaels, Target, or Walmart items. No mass produced items.
- Sublimation, Cricket, Laser cut/printed, or 3D printed items (Examples: cups, t-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, signs, rivets, ornaments, cutting board, etc.). We only approve one 3D printed vendor per store.
- Handmade items that are not your category. All crafts/handmade must be pre-approved. Reach out to your store manager: manager@shoptruenorth.com
- Free candy or other free items. We do not give free items to shoppers.
- Any items not marked with a tag.
- Pretty dolls in boxes. The exception is old barbies.
- No new barbies or toys. (Must be 1995 or older.)
- Items only priced with a sign. Each item needs a price.
- No fake floral, greenery, wreaths – unless Christmas.
- No underwear, bras, or socks.
- No new items. Period.
- No containers with old liquid: including alcohol in bottles or decanters, oil cans, and mercury thermometers.
- No food items. You must have a cottage food license and be approved.
- Items considered ‘thrift’ that are allowed:
dishes, trinkets, weird decor, frames, artwork, jewelry, shoes, clothing, blankets, music (CD’s, cassettes, vinyl), creepy dolls, lamps, furniture, grandma, purses, accessories, etc. Ask if in doubt. - Items considered ‘thrift’ that are not allowed:
appliances, tutu’s, costumes except for seasonal, decor with Hobby Lobby or Dollar Store tags, new items in original bags, boxes, or plastic. Ask if in doubt. - No Christmas year round. Only November or December. Decor is removed from the floor one week after Christmas.
- No sales. No discounts. No Buy One Get One. No custom orders. No signs that say you buy items. Your business card and a sign with your business name is acceptable.
- Hangers should be all the same and labeled with your vendor number.
- You must water your own plants.
- No items left outside (even while restocking).
- No grab bags for clothing. Each item must be tagged.
- Price each article of clothing. Do not put the item tag on the hanger.
- No “sample only” or display only items. Everything in your booth should be for sale, if possible.
- All props should be for sale. No empty wine bottles as display.
- No wine bottle crafts (again, no crafts).
- Multiple items with one tag. Each piece needs a tag stating: “1 of 2” or on a cup “with saucer.” The word “Set” is confusing. Include vendor number on each piece.
- Multiple items in box, with only a tag on the box should be removed from the box, and the set should be separated. Sets don’t sell. Items should be taken out of the box or bag. Customers want to feel the item.
- No gift baskets or gift bags. Half the fun for shoppers is putting together their own gifts. We are not a “gift basket” store. Let them have the fun.
- Clothing should be clean, not missing buttons, not stained, and in style or vintage. Nothing in between. (No one wants your old jogging pants from 2010.)
- Any bagged items must be finished. That means a card across the top, stapled, and priced on the back. Ask a manager for examples.
Pre Approved:
The following items need preapproved starting Jan. 1, 2025.
Grab Bags: We have had complaints that the items are not appropriate for shoppers under 18. Items in the bag should not have anything included against store policy. They need to be finished quality and tagged properly.
Any item over $75, unless furniture, needs to be approved if not in a locked case. Remember, our average items sell for $20 or less.
Donations:
Thank you for thinking of us, but True North and its staff does not accept donations for the store. Decorations, merchandise too big for your booth, etc. We all rent space just as you do and buy specifically. True North does not have space for extra items.
This may seem excessive but we want to be clear, and we want to keep our customers happy and continuing to come back to True North!
Thank you!
